Learn more about solar window films by Protex Canada
Is solar window film worth it?
Absolutely. Installing solar window film provides numerous benefits for both residential and commercial buildings. It helps block solar heat, reducing energy costs by lowering your cooling needs. The glare reduction feature enhances visual comfort while still allowing natural light to fill your space, improving both comfort and aesthetics. By providing UV protection, it prevents the fading of furniture and floors. Whether you’re looking for improved comfort or energy savings, solar control window films are the perfect solution to shield your glass from harsh heat and glare.
How much is solar window film?
The cost of solar window film varies depending on the type of film and the size of the installation. High-quality solar control films, such as reflective sun control film, can be more expensive but offer greater energy savings and UV protection over time. With the added benefits of reduced solar heat, improved aesthetics, and long-term protection against fading, investing in solar films offers a cost-effective way to enhance the comfort of your home or commercial building while lowering energy usage.
How long does solar window film last?
Protex’s solar control window films are designed to be durable and long-lasting. Depending on the film, installation, and maintenance, these films can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years. Over this time, they continue to provide glare reduction, UV protection, and energy savings by blocking excessive heat and preserving visible light transmission. With a strong layer of protection, solar films are an excellent long-term investment in both comfort and energy efficiency, making them a smart choice for both residential and commercial buildings.
What is VLT?
When you browse products and read through the descriptions as well as technical specifications of the Protex line of solar control films, automotive window tint, and tinted security films for residential buildings you will often see a “VLT” rating for the window film in question.
VLT is an acronym that stands for “Visible Light Transmission” or sometimes referred to as visible light transmittance. VLT is first a window industry term that refers to the amount of visible light that passes through a window film and is expressed as a percentage. A lower VLT rating tends to be better for glare control, whereas a higher rating is preferred if you want to get more natural light.
The general rule of thumb of VLT is the lower the VLT number the darker the solar control films.
Please note that VLT only refers to visual light and does not take Ultraviolet blocking qualities of window film into consideration.
As a matter fact, even our highest VLT films will still block more than 99% of UV rays. Although there does tend to be a correlation between visual light transmission and total solar energy rejection (TSER), Protex offers a wide selection of window films to greatly optimize light transmission and heat rejection.
What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?
Sunlight contains various rays, including harmful ultraviolet light (UV). The two main types are UVA and UVB.
It is important to protect yourself from UVA with control films
There are about 500 times more ultraviolet A rays in sunlight than ultraviolet B. Protecting against UVB alone is not enough. You need defense against the deeper-penetrating UVA rays, which cause skin cancer and premature aging.
Installing Protex solar control films is the perfect solution. Our premium films provide UV protection from both UVA and UVB, ensuring your comfort and protection.
