The impact of control films

Installing a solar film for home windows with Protex Canada has a near immediate impact on the comfort of your home and your heating bill:

  1. Our energy films reduce 99% of the sun’s UV light and reject up to 79% of the solar heat (or infrared light) that may otherwise come through your windows.
  2. Our solar control films also help reduce winter heat loss by reflecting up to 35% of indoor excessive heat back into the room
  3. The UV rays of the sun can deteriorate your furniture, even inside your house. You will see that our control films help reduce the fading of your furnishings.

You will find our solar control films are also easy on the eyes providing a soft shade to the glass once installed. On the outside, the solar control films will give your home a more pleasing, unified look while increasing privacy during the day. On the inside, our control films provide glare reduction for you and your guests allowing every part of your home to be enjoyed no matter how much sun faces the glass.

Install solar control films on your house with Protex Canada

Next time the sun is shining through a window, stand in front of it and feel the heat coming through. Then move next to a wall that is facing the sun and you will feel nothing. Why? That’s because the wall is insulated, and the glass is not.

By installing solar control window films to your existing windows, you are insulating them making for a more energy efficient home. Remember that solar control films reduce heat gain by up to 79% which helps to lower energy consumption and offer an ROI on most jobs within 3-5 years based on energy savings.

Solar Control Films FAQ

When you browse products and read through the descriptions as well as technical specifications of the Protex line of solar control films, automotive window tint, and tinted security films for residential buildings you will often see a “VLT” rating for the window film in question.

VLT is an acronym that stands for “Visible Light Transmission” or sometimes referred to as visible light transmittance.

VLT is first a window industry term that refers to the amount of visible light that passes through a

window film and is expressed as a percentage. A lower VLT rating tends to be better for glare control, whereas a higher rating is preferred if you want to get more natural light.

The general rule of thumb of VLT is the lower the VLT number the darker the solar control films.

Please note that VLT only refers to visual light and does not take Ultraviolet blocking qualities of window film into consideration.

As a matter fact, even our highest VLT films will still block more than 99% of UV rays. Although there does tend to be a correlation between visual light transmission and total solar energy rejection (TSER), Protex offers a wide selection of window films to greatly optimize light transmission and heat rejection.

There are several types of rays present in sunlight. The rays that are most dangerous to our skin are called ultraviolet light (UV) rays. There are two basic types of ultraviolet rays that reach the Earth’s surface: namely UVB and UVA.

It is important to protect yourself from UVA with control films

There are approximately 500 times more ultraviolet A rays in sunlight than ultraviolet B rays. Therefore, protecting your skin from the effects of UVB rays alone is not enough. It is also extremely important to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the more numerous UVA rays.

Ultraviolet A rays play a role in skin cancer formation. Additionally, the UVA rays penetrate more deeply into the skin. They play a greater role in premature skin aging changes including the wrinkle formation that is called photoaging.

This is why choosing Protex solar control quality films is a good solution. Our selection of premium films will help you to get protection from UVA and UVB rays.
